Dagný Emma Magnúsdóttir

Dagný Emma Magnúsdóttir was born in Iceland but immigrated to New Zealand in 1995. She is the author of The Garbagemonster (published in Iceland in 1995 as a book and a play) The Garbagemonster project was supported by a number of institutions in Iceland, including SORPA (an Icelandic association of recycling stations) and the National Centre for Educational Materials (Namsgagnastofnun) The book was included in the school curriculum in Iceland, with the aim of raising awareness about waste and the importance of recycling. Comments from the theatre critic of Iceland’s biggest paper Morgunblaðið included: “The Garbage Monster is a funny and well-written piece. This is a useful project, staged in an entertaining way and the audience at the premiere will be glad that they came out.”
